On May 15, on the day of Pentecost, the largest prayer gathering was held in Hong Kong. Around 50,000 Christians from various churches gathered at the Hong Kong Stadium to pray in response to the 2 hundred million Christians who gathered from around the world to pray on the Global Day of Prayer.

During the prayer meeting, they prayed in the following order: World, Country, Hong Kong and Churches in Hong Kong. Leaders from different denominations took turn in leading the crowds in prayers. Believers from different social status, including government official, education and business leaders also led the prayers. For this historical day, they have all left their title and profession in order to represent for themselves.

The announcer of the gathering, Ma Wong Peikei expressed that it is a coincidence that May 15 is also the day of Pentecost, and it is a day that greatly bring about the expansion of churches and changes in society. Thus, the Global Day of Prayer holds a very special significance.

She further commented, “The areas that were prayed for will bring great blessings to the society and family. Many people repented for their sins and returned back to God, broken families became reunited, and crime rates dropped.” The Christians in Hong Kong hopes that this unity in prayer will bring abundant blessings to Hong Kong.

This international event is hosted in over 170 countries around the world. In over 56 countries in Africa, over 23 million African Christians prayed at 2000 separate meeting points. In countries of Asia, Hong Kong and Taiwan combined has 34 districts that hosted prayer gathering, and United States has 75 cities that participated.
