Hong Kong, China - The 21st Hong Kong Book Fair officially kicked off this Wednesday. Chinese Christian publishers and ministries held a simple opening ceremony for the Christianity section marked in the event.

That morning, Edward Yau Tang-wah, Secretary for the Environment in the Hong Kong government, and Dr. Chan Yu-nan, honorary professor of Hong Kong University Chinese majors, led the ceremony as the main honorary guests.

Rebecca Chee Lai-wa, vice executive director of Christian Communications Hong Kong, expressed her hope that the area for Christianity in the event can become a spiritual oasis, where the visitors will not only see the books, but will also see the glory that emanates from serving brothers and sisters.

This year’s theme for the Christianity Section is “Reading for the Souls, Creating a Better Sky”; a total of 75 booths were used among the 23 participating Christian publishers and ministries.

Last year, the reading habits of over 900,000 people who attended the Hong Kong Book Fair were recorded.

Organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the Hong Kong Book Fair 2010 is held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from 21-27 July 2010. Association of Christian Publishers Ltd is among the 11 supporting organizations of the event.

The major exhibit categories include the following: books and publications, children’s and teen’s books, religious books, multimedia: eBooks, online publishing, audio-visual learning aids, educational software, stationeries and printing products.
